Well, I must admit I can sort of get with triple-talk.. I think it was the
base for my Book Couriers... but I'll tell you it takes a lot... meaning it
is a very aquired taste... and it always, always sounds mechanicalo and
robotic. After awhile the original Dectalk becomes a normal sounding
voice.... I can even prove this to a point. There are actually terrifically
great readers from the ol American Pnting House in Lolusiville... who, when
slowed down a tiny bit.. sound exactly like Dectalk original. Try this with
a good Livingston Gilbert book... say the original renditions of the Tolkien
Trilogy. Of course, speeded up or down, Mr. Gilbert was one of the best
readers of all time. But then, there is no production hosue anywhere of any
time frame that even comes close to the APH's work over the past say 60
years or so. Is it more?
Hey, this discussion is never going to find people who say, hey youk know,
you're right... I really do like th esynthesizer you like more than one I
like. :-) It's a mater of taste, whichever you gravitate to first and
hardest... stays with you forever. That's only fair and I'm glad of it.
There is room in the world for lots of good voices.

P.S. - I read my first talking book from APH in 1955... I still have that
original talking book player *and* it still works perfectly and sounds
fantastic. It is made out of wood and has a huge speaker in the wood. I'm
keeping it for posterity ... whenever he comes around.
