Ambrish,

The problem with S parameters is the instantiation of an S parameter model
can be quite convoluted. Your new Language Touchstone is nothing different
then using BIRD 116, and having a reserved Tstonefile subckt name that has
standard ports and is wrapped in a simple subckt.

I think having a special code to point to a canned subckt Tstonefile
wrapper satisfies all of the requirements. First, it eliminates 'the
hassles of writing sub-circuits to do simple instantiations'. Second, it
enables the tool to implement the S parameter instance more efficiently
than just including subckt.

Why is this not a much simpler solution.

Walter

Arpad,
I am not sure if the motion was to 'end discussion and call for a vote' OR
'end discussion ... and to make a recommendation to the IBIS Open Forum to
reject the BIRD' as you put it.

Considering how ubiquitous s-parameters are becoming, we believe that
there are merits with the proposal to directly instantiate s-parameter
models from an IBIS file without going through the hassles of writing
sub-circuits to do simple instantiations.

Thanks,
Ambrish.

committee

Hello Everyone,

A formal motion was made in the ATM teleconference yesterday regarding the
ongoing discussions on BIRD 144.3. The motion requested a vote to be made
to end the discussions on BIRD 144.3 in the ATM teleconferences and to
make a recommendation to the IBIS Open Forum to reject the BIRD.

The attendees of the meeting decided to schedule the vote for the next ATM
teleconference on Tuesday April 17 to give enough time for the
participants to think about the subject and to make arrangements to attend
the next meeting or cast their vote in a private email sent to
the chair of the ATM committee: (arpad_muranyi@xxxxxxxxxx)

Thanks,

Arpad
