I'm not sure whether you are familiar with the Red Alert story, but in case you are not, I fear, because you're a historian, you'll be disappointed. The Red Alert universe does slightly reflect actual history, but it does deviate significantly. I'll give a brief overview of the story of the Red Alert series, so hopefully you'll understand the what if scenarios here. It began in 1945, when Albert Einstein finished his creation, the "Chronosphere". With this, he was able to travel back through time and eliminate Adolf Hitler and change history. Because of this, Nazi Germany never formed and the German war machine along with it. The Soviets saw opportunity and made their move on Western Europe. Eventually, the Western Europeans, known as the Allies, managed to win out and invade Moscow, bringing an end to Soviet aggression and to Stalin himself. However, years later, an embittered Soviet Union, who had to this point been a puppet of the United States, launched their own daring counter-attack, invading the United States itself. The Americans, with their European Allies's aid, managed again to get the victory, despite the odds, and invaded Moscow with a view to making the Soviet Union pay for its crimes. They were mostly successful. Here is where the opening movie would kick in. With the Premier having fled the Kremlin, a General and a former advisor to the Premier, travel to a secret science facility where a top secret project has finally yielded a prototype time machine. With no time to lose, with Allied forces converging on the Kremlin, they make their own jump back in time. They emerge in 1927, and eliminate the one man who was most responsible for the Allies's success, Professor Einstein. Back in their own time, the Soviets are the aggressors and the Allies are on the run. But all this medalling with time has inadvertently spawned a third military superpower, the Empire of the Rising Sun, who make their move whilst their two rivals are at their most vulnerable. Here is where you take over, to decide the fate of the world. I hope that gives a brief overview of what is going on. Not everything will quite be as you expect, historically, so just take history with a pinch of salt here. Some things will be accurate, some will be completely out of sync. I do intend to get the Imperials as playable soon. I want to get my transformation script working though, since Imperial units will often turn into something else. The Stryker VX, for example, can switch to its aerial form, the Chopper VX, and back again. Imperial buildings are also built using small units, which transform into buildings, making imperial bases much more mobile. But that's a little way off yet. Keep tinkering though and I look forward to playing any map packs you get going of your own. Being a historian, you may be able to make some pretty good realistic map packs that some of us might not quite be up to making. Good luck! Craig
