As Laurie will attest, rubber does not last indefinitely. Over the
years it can age, shrink and get brittle. I’m sure she hates when that
happens. Maybe that’s what caused the “crack” in it that she
mentioned.

Yes, indeed, a nice looking specimen. Given the dates and the lack of
an under barrel ejection rod shroud, this one would be a 1st generation
Dick Special. I believe the other differences in the various
generations (mine is a 3rd generation) comes mostly in the hammer
design. It’s got nice looking bluing and the wood grips look very
clean as well. The Pachmayr grip insert is an add-on, of course, which
some people liked for Colt and S&W snubbies to fill out the grip a bit.
Given the prices I’ve seen lately for Dick Specials I’d place it around
$700 - $800.
