your own repository.

the repository. That would make it difficult to setup a kind of Bebits
or Haikuware or am I seeing this wrong?

Yes, currently the packages must be built with the proper "vendor" key.
I'm not sure why there is such a restriction, maybe another developer
can comment on this decision?

The idea behind that is that repositories need to be curated and maintained carefully to avoid inconsistencies between packages that lead to broken installations or, in the best case, to complicated error messages when trying to install something. You generally cannot build an automatic BeBits kind of repository where anyone can add their packages.
