I did that, it re-checks the box after save! Maybe i'm hitting some
weird bug, but I've seen it do that a couple times now.

Then the next person to edit it causes it to change again.

I find it's safer at this point to just let it recreate the alias, and
generate a redirect for it.

Either way, preventing it from happening is much harder now.

Also - something that wasn't obvious at first, it seems you can only
have one alias per page - I was attempting to create different aliases
and didn't understand why the previous alias was disappearing... which
is why I settled on redirects.
