... I figured since this is detailing TM usage, it'd be better on this list.

This is following up on
  http://dev.haiku-os.org/changeset/37161
  //www.freelists.org/post/haiku/Haiku-User-Group-Logo-What-is-wanted

First, here's the leaves that are used within the Project :

=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
HAIKU Leaf
 * The leaf appearing on the characters 'H', 'A', and 'U' in the HAIKU
logo and the Deskbar logo.
 * They all share the same path.
 * Differences - colors used and "Drop Shadow" settings

HAIKU Background Leaf
 * This is the leaf behind the HAIKU logo in "HAIKU logo - website -
logo" WonderBrush file,
   which was used in the Drupal 4/5 installation of www.haiku-os.org
 * This also appears as a leaf outline behind the HAIKU logo in the
HAIKU User Guide.

Icons and Overlays:
 * These probably should not / could not become TM's, as they're icons.
   But its worth mentioning for completeness.
   Maybe these can be encouraged items for HUG & other independent logos?

 * App_About : Isometric 7 pointed deciduous-tree leaf. Apparently not used.
 * App_About_2 : Isometric maple(?) leaf. Used as the icon for the
application "AboutSystem"
 * Overlay_leaf : Flat maple leaf. Used as favicon for *.haiku-os.org,
overlay in numerous applications.
 * App_Haiku3d : Isometric 'H' with green HAIKU Leaf. Used as the icon
for the application "Haiku3d"
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

What type of usage do we want to allow and prevent?

NOTE: All of this applies to the leaves as individual graphics
      and NOT to the leaves when they are part of the HAIKU logo.

example Provisions:
 * Use must be within the bounds of good taste.
   (as an analogy, "G rated movie" and not "XXX" nor "NA-17")
 * Maintain apect ratio.
 * Cannot be used to create a confusing logo
 * (May the Futura font or similar fonts be used?)

Example "Confusing" Logos (and thus not allowed):
 * App_Haiku3d + "AIKU"
 * "HAIKU" with one or more leaves in close proximity to the glyphs

example Permissions:
 * Graphical edits including:
     Changing colors
     Image rotation
     Image scaling
     Adding/Removing borders, shadings, other filters
 * Combining with additional elements
 * Using as part of Haiku User Group/3rd party/independent logos and
other works of art

Would we want to restrict the selling/printing/distribution of the leaf?
 * If yes, what artwork could 3rd parties freely use in the creation
of their own goods to sell?

What about derivatives of HAIKU's codebase? (eg, builds that cannot
use the TM's)
  * "I don't think replacing the logo with the leaf is a good idea -
those are still images built by the official source." -- Axel ticket
#6183

Are there any other restrictions that should be placed on this?

How will this affect the Deskbar logo usage -- back when creating the
current distribution guidelines, it decided to allow the Deskbar logo
to remain in builds that need to replace the TM's (name + logo)

Anything else?
