Hi,

Thank you all for your fast answers =). When I researched file systems, I was
very curious about snapshots, which led me to NILFS. It would be interesting
for me to implement it, however I'm not sure how useful it would be for other
users. Additionally, I would also need to know how to integrate snapshot
functionality into tracker (possibly paving way for ZFS for example). I would
be most interested in something which would have somewhere to start from.
That's why I'd have interest in ext2/3/4 and UFS. However, I also like to
experiment things with higher flexibility (and sometimes an associated risk),
which leads to other file systems too. I find ZFS fascinating, although I think
it would be a complicated start. The same goes for Btrfs or Tux3 IIRC.

I'm currently leaning toward implementing something along the ext2/3/4 path.
Maybe NILFS I could implement later, outside of GSOC. Anyway, maybe I might not
get as far as ext4, but either way, I am aiming for some write support,
whichever I do. As far as I understood, there isn't write support for ext2 yet,
is that correct? If so, I think that would be a nice place to start. Any
opinions?

Thank you again for all your help. I will start investigating all I can. Any
doubts I have I'll probably post here (unless it's more relevant to post
somewhere else). Are there mentors for such project for GSOC? Should I contact
them before applications start?

Sincerly,

Janito
