I always drive my system to the limit wherever possible, when testing. But since there's only 256Mb of real memory in use I wouldn't call this "heavy memory pressure" at all.

I'm surprised that you say DMA is implemented, especially since it is taking in excess of 8 hours to simply copy the sources from one drive to another. That's not "pretty slow", it's broken.
