One thing you might try, if you have a moment.  Disable the usb_midi
driver (move /boot/system/add-ons/kernel/drivers/dev/midi/usb_midi out
of that folder [bypassing any warning it may give you about messing
with the system!]), then reboot (just to make sure) and plug your KX8
in again.

If it doesn't lock up this time (as I hope!) the K/B should still
show up in the /dev/usb tree, and you can run listusb -v on it.
If you can do that, please post the output.  Might give us some
clue as to what's happening.
