You wouldn't be able to cancel an ongoing download.
The application must still be running for the download to continue anyway.
So, this is not really a "notification", but a progress indicator. Just like
Trracker copy, and Web+ downloads. Both are not using the notification system
yet, for similar reasons.
Maybe keeping the progress in the SoftwareUpdater window is after all
the best solution. Add a notification when the update is complete, so
people can hide the SoftwareUpdater and be informed it has finished.
But apart from that, improving the notifications as discussed is still
useful. :)
It may be worth thinking the notification system so that they can be used in
this case. For example, Android notifications do have action buttons in some
cases. We can already have a single action on click on the notification, but we
could add more ("pause" button for a download, "skip" for a song from a music
player, ...).
It needs more work than the simple system we have currently, however.
