At many Universities there are suggested dissertation projects that
lecturers come up with, or students can submit their own. Perhaps those
suggested projects could involve haiku.

Otherwise it perhaps requires an operating systems researcher to encourage
or direct their masters or PhD students to use haiku to test out research
ideas.
