 So the question is (once again): is the priority inheritance the way to go
 (accepting the overhead) or is it better to scrap this patch altogether
 and try to solve the problem at the points where it occurs, i.e. identify
 the locks and try to reduce their usage? (maybe the patch code can be
 further optimized to reduce the overhead, but some of it will always be
 there)

 As one of the Be Newsletters indicates, original BeOS didn't have priority
 inheritance either -- and it worked without freezing after all.
