I think this issue could also be related to the "WebPositive never
 notices that downloads are finished" one. If WebKit is waiting for some
 resource to be downloaded and never get the completion notification, it
 may end up being stuck in an unfinished rendering state.

 In that case the working of the 404 site may simply be the 404 error code
 that gets returned? maybe an issue in the new netservices api?
