 Ok, at least this mystery is solved. Yes, the 2 cards are different (I did
 not expect that). The igb one is the one that hangs (thus it explains why
 it was hanging when 2 cards were enabled. This just happened to be the
 first one initialized).

 This means that this machine has 2 different ethernet cards and one wifi
 card. All supposedly supported and none working. That is luck for you. :)

 Anyway, I guess I will focus on the em card as it does sound like a
 simpler issue at first.
