Hi again I have just suffered one of the problems with relying on mainstream equipment/software. I suffered a computer problem and in the course of sorting it out lost one of the programmes I rely on for converting audio files. The version I was using was not the latest version but it worked well with JAWS. I had not only lost the installed version of the program but its source as well. I went to the web site and downloaded and installed the latest version only to find that it was totally unusable. Where I had been able to select files through a standard file open dialog box it now depended upon drag and drop. I contacted the manufacturer and received the unsatisfactory reply that the old file selection had been dropped because research showed that nobody used it. But they did let me have a copy of an older version of the program. The point is that being a minority group it is highly likely that although our needs may be met in one version of a program/device if market research shows that the parts we rely on are not pulling their weight in the market place then there is absolutely no guaranty that they will continue to be available. We need strong legislation as well as continuous vigilance to ensure that we do not suddenly lose out. Problems like those currently being experienced with the new version of windows for mobiles should not happen. If in the coming months you need to replace your windows mobile you are only going to be able to do it by accepting a product that is already obsolete or you are going to have to change your equipment and learn a whole new operating system and applications. At least with the specialist equipment makers this kind of thing does not happen although some of them can be pretty indifferent to our needs and make dramatic changes without consultation. Steve
