[gpodder-devel] latest version doesn't run on Ubuntu 8.04

Hello,
I just installed gPodder 0.12 on Ubuntu 8.04 with the following command:
sudo checkinstall
It wouldn't start up:
gpodder
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/usr/bin/gpodder", line 166, in <module>
sys.exit( main())
File "/usr/bin/gpodder", line 110, in main
import gpodder
ImportError: No module named gpodder
Also, there is no menu item created like in former versions.
What can I do to get it running?
