Hi,

Finale includes a light version of the Dolet XML plugin, converting small files should be no problem. When you want bigger scores or more converting possibiltys you should by the Dolet 4 XML plugin at the Ricercare
web site. You can try a demo for 3 months.
Succes

However, I have now downloaded the demo of Finale 2008, and
in the File menu, there is a "MusicXML item". If you select
that, you then have two choices, Import and Export. (Export
will be greyed out unless you have a file open)

Unfortunately I can't go further as the demo won't allow
saving.

George.

I'm downloading a demo to see if I can locate exactly where
the feature reside, but meantime...

According to the following Finale web page, Finale 2003
upwards includes XML Import/Export. With Finale 2000 -
2002, it was a separate module.

http://www.finalemusic.com/finale/features/shareandconnect/b
ackwards.aspx

The page begins:
"Import and Export MusicXML Files Finale can import and export MusicXML files—right from the
File menu and the launch window. Unlike MIDI files, MusicXML
allows you to transfer the sounds and graphical elements in
your file to other applications."

George.

I have a friend who has Finale and he said he doesn't have
this option of XML. Do you know why? Does Finale require a special plugin
for it?

Finale 2005 and later allows you to export MusicXML right
from Finale's
File
menu. For example, flute.mus becomes flute.xml.

Then you close Finale and run Lime.

Under Lime's File menu, choose Import and then MusicXML.
Generally, you
can
accept all default values in the dialog that next appears.
Sometimes, you
must specify number of systems per page. Once you close
that dialog, the
music will appear in Lime's main window and you can
transcribe it with
GOODFEEL.
