For those new to caching after 2006, you will find 5 or 6 new caches and I’m
sure more will show up, along with the new Munzees that are now there.. The
area is located just off the Al Foster trail in Glencoe at the home of the mini
RR.(Old State Road and HW 109 near Eureka).

Back in 2003 we were asked by the STL County Park rangers (prior to the Al
foster trail which was just an old RR right away then) to place some caches in
this undeveloped park since it was an area where intruders were digging up the
area looking for Indian relics and arrowheads. These 3 caches were there until
the end of 2006 when the county lawyers found out about geocaching and decided
it was not a safe place for anyone to be because of the steep bluff, hidden
holes, old fences. etc. So Glenn archived the 3 cache.

So now fast forward to Sept. 2013. Now the old Packwood area has a new bike
trail leading up to the top of the bluff from the East side, and we have
permission to place caches again, and use the area. Only rules are the normal
Groundspeak rules and the County Park rules, which means the 528’ rule from
Groundspeak and the “no ammo boxes or PVC pipe rules from the county. Same as
in all the STL county parks.

The 3 original caches were called the “Packwood Trilogy, and they were Packwood
Estate (GCH97X), Water Water Everywhere... (GCHA60), and Enchanted Forest of
Packwood (GCHA5G)

These 3 caches were basically just un-archived to keep all the historical logs
over the 3 years they were available. Glenn and I went out Tuesday to replace
the containers, double-check waypoints, and make minor changes. The cache
hidden date was changed from 12/02/2003 to 9/18/2013 or almost 10 years ago.

So what this means to those cachers who had logged them when originally placed,
you will NOT see them as a new cache notification or when running a PQ for new
caches since they had already been logged as found. So, all 3 have at least one
minor change of a WP, calculation, or the final location. Unless you have a
great memory or kept really good notes, you will probably need to go through
all the steps again anyway to find them so you CAN log them again.

That area should make a nice day trip or a group hunt, especially as more
caches get placed there.

As a warning, some of you may be aware of the locked gate on Old State Road
that has a STL County Park sign on it with room for “maybe” 2 cars.in front of
the gate, and right next to an old house. DO NOT PARK THERE! The couple living
there are very unfriendly and they will yell at you for being next to their
house, even though it IS county Park property. Even the rangers who park there
in uniform and marked ranger cars get hassled by those people. Back in 2003 on
a Sunday when scouting for cache placements, I received a ticket from Wildwood
for parking too close to a mailbox. So the park neighbors have not changed.

Rich and Glenn
