nope - no software is deleting old caches before inserting new ones (unless it's a line in the GPSr program that does it that way.) For the most part I handle my PQs by dragging and dropping the respective .gpx from desktop download folder into the Geocache and the Waypoints folders on the GPSr. I have basically wiped (while connected to computer, not the way you describe) the GPSr and put fresh PQs on, and that does take care of the duplication. However, I do need to check on this - what happens when I put overlapping PQs on? For instance, I have a regular PQ for 500 active caches I haven't found from home. Let's say I run one of my other ones that covers South County and Arnold/Festus, so little overlap in cache area - which means the same child waypoints. Will that result in duplicate waypoints listed on my GPSr? I do not know, I need to experiment a little. Now, the problem with the menu delete all waypoints procedure is that I lose my user created waypoints that way too. Speaking of, I know before I did that one time, I got the data for the turtle playground. took it home, calculated, marked the waypoint, deleted my wpts files on the GPSr after putting them on to the computer. and now I don't know which wpts file on the computer it is! but I guess it doesn't matter since that cache is archived now! What you should do is delete all of the caches and the waypoints manually before putting the new caches in. You do this by pressing the menu while looking at the geocaches and scroll down to the bottom and select delete all. Do the same with waypoints. After that there should be nothing in either file. (I've sifted through them in Drs' offices, at lunch, watching tv, etc to free up space.) Anyone else know about this glitch? While typing this I wonder this - could the additional waypoints actually be included in the first file, so I'm putting this on twice? Barring that, I've thought of using a g-caching computer app to consolidate the duplicate waypoints. Thought I could do something about it with GSAK, but I haven't figured out how to manage the daughter waypoints. I'm thinking maybe the best way to go is to use the program that came with my first garmin etrex vista. The second file contains "additional waypoints" added to the cache page by the CO. These are typically things like trailheads, parking areas, or "questions to be answered" in a puzzle. The straight ".gpx" file is the cache data proper. The "wpts.gpx" file includes child waypoints, parking coordinates, etc. If you can do without them, just load the basic ".gpx" file. If not, load both. -Michael From: Patricia Hutchison <patriciahutchison@xxxxxxxxxxx> To: geocaching@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Thursday, March 7, 2013 8:11 AM Subject: [GeoStL] Re: Garmin Oregon 450 Also, my PQ generated two files: .gpx and .wpts.gpx - Do I put both on the GPS? Then down load the pocket query to the gps directory {drive letter}/garmin/gps Then unplug and have fun. Team_state aka. I've done the quick start and visited the Garmin website to register it, but now I'm not sure what I'm doing. When I run a query for caches on Geocaching.com, then what do I do? I'm a bit lost and of course the quick start guide is pretty much only helpful for putting in the batteries and turning it on. Help! Spiritwolf922
