Apparently that move has been coming on for a while.

A cache without a logbook (it seems) is little more than a litterbox left in the woods. There has been a developing problem as people throw these things all over the country or even just all over town as they travel, with no intention of ever getting back to them for maintainance.

There have been caches left around with objects in them (and food) that the cachers were supposed to identify, then there was the great Sneaker Cache a while back. I think this sort of got the ball rolling in this direction. Some guy that just went out and threw his old sneakers up in a tree in the woods. It was approved, and people found them but it got really ugly as the whole topic developed.

The more i read back at the origin of various the guidelines that are supposed to be used, I find that they result from cache placers abusing the system, a public outcry ensues then GC.com is forced to "do something" by the cachers and bingo, new rule is born. Remember the yellow jeep cache? I think that may have been the start of the end of the locationless caches.

virtual caches are going down the same road. GC.com wants to keep the quality of these high for the cachers, mostly all that the approvers get is grief.

There are a lot of conflicting issues swirling around all at the same time.

Logbooks seem to be one of the "issues of the day" in response to the pressures of the "What are YOU going to do about all these junk caches". It seems it never ends....

I spent some time today in the forums. (My email program went on strike this morning, so couldn't even read what little mail was here.) I found the discussion on log books interesting. I am assuming this new mandatory log book thing is fairly new. For those who haven't heard this yet, traditional caches now have to have log books. You can't just put a code word in and have people email for verification. It should make for some interesting ideas for log books in micros.
