Steve, very well put and I agree with you 100%. I initially paid for
the program and then contributed more at a later date. Clyde couldn't be
any more reasonable in what he is charging for such a great program.

Jack,

This isn't being directed at you but is meant to express my feelings
regarding Clyde English's decision to charge for the 7.x upgrade to
GSAK.

<soapbox mode=on>

There's been a raging debate on the GSAK forums regarding
this upgrade. For the most part, peoples' stories are like
mine. I registered and paid $20 for GSAK in November 2004
and, at that time, upgrades were free for the "forseeable future". I
used GSAK for 738 days without paying anything additional for it. That's
far longer than any other tool I use (that continues to be supported).
I'm in GSAK about every day (if for nothing more than keeping my caches
up to
date) and use it extensively to manage my caches. I've not found any
other product that provides better customer service than Clyde does for
GSAK. You can continue to use GSAK 6.x for the rest of eternity without
having to pay for it. If, by chance, you'd like to use some of the
newer features, then it will cost you $15 to get them ($10 if you
registered less than 6 month ago). You are not being forced to do so.
You can also continue to use GSAK with the nag screen and not pay a
dime. I'd hate to try to duplicate all of the functionality that I use
in GSAK with some other tool. For the most part, it couldn't be done
unless I spent hours and hours doing it myself. As a developer, I can
see the efforts that are put into GSAK and I know what it would take to
duplicate them myself. For me, at least, I'm glad that Clyde is
charging for an upgrade. It helps insure his ability to devote his full
attention to enhancing and supporting GSAK. If I do the math, I paid
$20 for initial registration of GSAK and I used it for 25 months.
That's about $.80 a month. Not a bad deal.
