*LAKE LEVEL UPDATE*

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers issued an update at 8:00 p.m. Monday. Due to the unexpected heavy inflows received last evening, it has been determined that an increased rate of release from the Clarence Cannon Dam is necessary. When the lake level surpasses 638.0 NGVD, a state of Induced Surcharge begins. This means that the dam is discharging water at a rate higher than 12,000 cubic feet per second (cfs). Releases above a rate of 12,000 cfs at Clarence Cannon Dam is unprecedented. Currently, the lake level is at a record elevation of 639.23 NGVD and the dam is currently releasing at 32,000cfs. The Corps of Engineers is planning to increase releases to 38,000cfs. The lake level is expected to crest at an elevation of 639.6 NGVD on Wednesday, July 30^th. More precipitation may increase the lake level and make it necessary to increase releases. The Corps is in contact with emergency responders to inform them of any changes. Personnel at the lake are continuing to emphasize that public safety is the priority mission at all times. They are also advising people in the Salt River valley to monitor media updates and to follow the advice of local emergency response personnel. Lake elevations may be monitored on the internet at: * http://mvs-wc.mvs.usace.army.mil/trans/gages.html* by clicking on the Salt River link and cursoring down to the Clarence Cannon-Mark Twain Lake Pool. Interested parties may also call the Mark Twain Lake project office at (573) 735-4097 for 24-hour information.
