Hey that gives me an idea.... Get a skunk stuffed from a taxidermist and set it
near the cache, won't be any muggles getting near that one...LOL

Maybe you could try sanding the inside of the box a little bit. That might
allow whatever you use to permeate the metal and get rid of the first layer if
"smell". I'd try straight bleach -- forget the water... and leave the lid open
while it soaks.

It smells like something crawled in and died. I don't believe it is the
gasket, since even without the lid being on it still stinks. If it was just
musty I wouldn't mind, first time I opened the box, I about keeled over.
(reason for leaving it outside, open, for over 3 weeks)

I will give baking soda a try and if that don't work, I am giving up on this
ammo box.

Subject: [GeoStL] Ammo Box Question

Somebody gave me an ammo box with has an aweful smell in it. I have tried many
things to get rid of the smell. Left it outside opened for 3 weeks to air,
left bleach water in it to soak, scrubbed it numerous times. But as soon as
you close the lid down that smell comes back. I have even left dryer sheets in
the box hoping that would help, but the smell over powers the dryer sheets.

How does one get rid of a smell inside of a metal box?

I hate to just pitch this ammo box since it is in excellent condition other
then being smelly.

Hoping maybe someone else had and issue with an ammo box.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Jen
