Thanks, this did the trick, didn't need to do the other export's.
Have built successfully, and re-pro'ed the bug with the alien ruleset.
Does that bug still need work? I could work on it. First problem I see -
the 'make install' fails to copy the folder
'...share/freeciv/alien/nations', instead copies the files from that
folder into '...share/freeciv/alien'.
