We have had a few problems lately with private vehicle (POV) operations on
the ramp at the Taos airport. The rules are spelled out in the POV
operating rules for Taos that came out in about 2004-2005. If you want a
copy talk to the Town of Taos. Here are a few highlights:
- 15 mph speed limit on the ramp. This is fairly standard in aviation.
- POVs never have the right of way.
- Do not pass or overtake an operating aircraft nor cross in front of it.
- POVs are allowed on the ramp traffic permitting but never on the taxiways
or off the paved surfaces with the exception of the glider ramp.
- POVs must enter and exit the nearest gate. Do not drive the length of the
airport inside of the fence. If you comply with the restrictions above this
isn't even possible.
- Parking is only permitted inside hangars (not in front of) and on the
glider ramp.
These restrictions are fairly common at any well run airport. Also, please
do not park in front of the FBO or in the FBO hangar. Thanks.
