Mike,

As a new person just getting acquainted with FGMLUG as well as with Linux, I do
appreciate being exposed to the issues discussed by the more experienced
members. It also provides me the freedom to ask more basic questions. Using
GnuCash user and developers lists as an analogy, the more open and basic user
lists is most helpful to those starting out. The "heavies" use the developers
list to reflect the technical issues that developers have to discuss. There is
a continuing effort to keep the two separate, but anyone can sign up for either
or both. Having more information available tends to support interest and
member involvement in my opinion.

I suggest your original summary of the lists be placed on the web site if it is
not there already.

As far as use of the lists goes, why not keep everything out for all to see,
except the discussion that Board members need to evaluate proposals and freely
explore all sides of a prospective change or adding something new. Since only
Board members are on that list, their discussion would be private.

Tom Bullock

Is it your position then that all discussion of software and hardware should be
confined to the LUG list unless a specific application to FGM and the warehouse
is evident? Would this include LUG announcements? General discussion of
software used in the warehouse? Should general chatter between volunteers be
allowed? Does anyone have any comments or suggestions?
