I think there are issues with Veritas period. It has problems identifying and overwriting tapes, etc. Plus they just merged with Symantec, so it's only going to get worse. I for one switched to NTBackup and could not be any happier or more assured that the data is getting backed up. Thank you Microsoft. -----Original Message----- From: Steve Moffat [mailto:steve@xxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Wednesday, July 13, 2005 1:04 PM To: [ExchangeList] Subject: [exchangelist] RE: Veritas and exchange http://www.MSExchange.org/ Isn't there ab issue with 8.6 and Win2K3? s -----Original Message----- From: Periyasamy, Raj [mailto:Raj.Periyasamy@xxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Wednesday, July 13, 2005 11:09 AM To: [ExchangeList] Subject: [exchangelist] RE: Veritas and exchange http://www.MSExchange.org/ Tom, Yes, you can use BE 8.6 to backup Exchange. You will need the agents though to backup the databases. Since you are running Exchange 2003, I would suggest doing a disk to disk backup of your Exchange using NTbackup, and then backup the NTbackup image file using BE8.6. This way, you don't need the BE Exchange agents. This is the recommended backup model suggested by Microsoft. There are a few articles in Microsoft KB on how to optimize the NTbackup for best throughput for a scenario like this. In my case, I use a 200GB USB drive for the disk to disk backups of Exchange, and I get very good through puts. HTH.
