I originally had it setup the way that MS PSS described below. I must be
misunderstanding something in the article below. In the article it
states that you can enter in an IP address to allow a certain computer
or group of computers to relay mail. What exactly is this saying? In the
Preventing the Exchange 2000 Server from Relaying E-mail Messages
subtopic in this article it tells you to add an IP address (which is
what I did). That was misleading me, but probably due to my own
ignorance. Can you explain this? Is it me or the article? lol

Yes and it sounds like you need to setup a smarthost entry and forward
the mail to the primary domain

I have my primary domain which is home@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx and then
we have a small group of about 10 users who have their own domain. Well,
we are now routing they're mail for them on our server. Does that make
sense? I don't know if I'm using the right terminology or not.

Are these domains within the same network. I had a case like
that where all mail was being routed to my DC which accidentally had
SMTP installed on it. After I stopped SMTP it went down the line to the
next. We were able to find that by using network monitor to capture the
data.
Allow connections from: All except the list below.
Allow Relaying for: Only the list below (list blank)
Customer has external name resolution with internal DNS servers,
but has put External DNS servers in the virtual server. Had customer
remove these entries.
These were the settings Microsoft had me set to stop the
relaying.

Mark, I followed your article and I did a test and found
out that I'm an open relay. When I run through the telnet process, I get
250 2.1.5 username@xxxxxxxxxx <mailto:username@xxxxxxxxxx> . I also
looked at article 324958 to try and fix the problem and after following
this article I still have this problem. I added another connector. One
connector has the default settings on there, in the address space tab
the box at the bottom is cleared. In the other connector, I have the
domain in there that I'm relaying and I have the box at the bottom of
the address space tab checked.
