As MS had explained it to me for $245.00, the only time an ip address needs entered into that box is when a machine will have to connect to port 25. Outlook and most clients don't need that. I have a web server that uses SMTP to send mail through our Exchange bos so it's internal IP's are listed there. I must be misunderstanding something in the article below. In the article it states that you can enter in an IP address to allow a certain computer or group of computers to relay mail. What exactly is this saying? In the Preventing the Exchange 2000 Server from Relaying E-mail Messages subtopic in this article it tells you to add an IP address (which is what I did). That was misleading me, but probably due to my own ignorance. Can you explain this? Is it me or the article? lol http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb%3ben-us%3b310380 -----Original Message----- From: Dennis Olson [mailto:Dennis.Olson@xxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Thursday, February 20, 2003 1:27 PM To: [ExchangeList] Subject: [exchangelist] Re: Open Relay - Revisit - http://www.MSExchange.org/ Yes and it sounds like you need to setup a smarthost entry and forward the mail to the primary domain The information contained in this message may be confidential or protected from use or disclosure by law. Well, we are now routing they're mail for them on our server. Does that make sense? I don't know if I'm using the right terminology or not. I had a case like that where all mail was being routed to my DC which accidentally had SMTP installed on it. After I stopped SMTP it went down the line to the next. We were able to find that by using network monitor to capture the data. Allow connections from: All except the list below. Allow Relaying for: Only the list below (list blank) Customer has external name resolution with internal DNS servers, but has put External DNS servers in the virtual server. Had customer remove these entries. These were the settings Microsoft had me set to stop the relaying. When I run through the telnet process, I get 250 2.1.5 username@xxxxxxxxxx <mailto:username@xxxxxxxxxx> . I also looked at article 324958 to try and fix the problem and after following this article I still have this problem. I added another connector. One connector has the default settings on there, in the address space tab the box at the bottom is cleared. In the other connector, I have the domain in there that I'm relaying and I have the box at the bottom of the address space tab checked. ------------------------------------------------------ List Archives: http://www.webelists.com/cgi/lyris.pl?enter=exchangelist Exchange Newsletters: http://www.msexchange.org/pages/newsletter.asp Exchange FAQ: http://www.msexchange.org/pages/larticle.asp?type=FAQ ------------------------------------------------------ ISA Server Resource Site: http://www.isaserver.org Windows Security Resource Site: http://www.windowsecurity.com/ Windows 2000/NT Fax Solutions: http://www.ntfaxfaq.com ------------------------------------------------------ You are currently subscribed to this MSExchange.org Discussion List as: jabalos@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx To unsubscribe send a blank email to $subst('Email.Unsub') ------------------------------------------------------ List Archives: http://www.webelists.com/cgi/lyris.pl?enter=exchangelist Exchange Newsletters: http://www.msexchange.org/pages/newsletter.asp Exchange FAQ: http://www.msexchange.org/pages/larticle.asp?type=FAQ ------------------------------------------------------ ISA Server Resource Site: http://www.isaserver.org Windows Security Resource Site: http://www.windowsecurity.com/ Windows 2000/NT Fax Solutions: http://www.ntfaxfaq.com ------------------------------------------------------ You are currently subscribed to this MSExchange.org Discussion List as: dennis.olson@xxxxxxxxxxxx To unsubscribe send a blank email to $subst('Email.Unsub')
