You Don't KNOW what Minister of Education Shy Peron and his lovely wife Evita are planning for us. There's all kinds of rumors circulating. No more Bagrut Exams? No more external exams? Yes Bagrut exams, but no grades, only a slap on the back and an automatic Mazal Tov on completing high school? Only Bagruts in Key subjects, so we'll be educating monKEYS and donKEYS? All subjects to be taught from right to left? A number of years ago the US of A instituted a program called No Child Left Behind. At first, many educators took this to mean you could give non functioning students a good kick on their right behind, but no, alas, it meant principals had to fake grades or they got fired. I would certainly be very wary of any program with a grandiose name that sounds great on a $50,000 ad campaign and has nothing to keep it in the air. What's our new one? Yisrael Olla Kitta? which means, more or less: "Israel Goes Up a Class?" "Israel passes to the next grade?" "Israel is pushed forward regardless of performance?' "Israel Gets High?" Whatever, it's promos like this that make me sweep out the Miklat and keep my files backed up. Anyway, my advice is, don't spend the summer learning the seven deadly components unless we get a clear message from the MOO. You have been warned. by Yair Lapeed on- the- Rug, As told, through a system of smoke signals, to Barry Silverberg, ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Rena Spolter <renaspolter@xxxxxxxxx> Subject: Online Literature Course this summer After reading Kobi's question about an Online Literature course this summer, I immediately went to the website of the Inspectorate for English of the MOE to see if there is any information. Since there was no information about a literature course, I proceeded to MaTaCH's website, where they list all the online continuing education courses that they offer. Lo and behold, an online summer literature course for 2014 was listed. However, when I clicked to find out more information, the following message appeared on the bottom of the page: Registration has closed. Anyone who registers now will be put on the waiting list for the course that may open in the 5775 school year. (Here is the link to the page) Needless to say, I am extremely frustrated! Where in the world, or on the world wide web, was such information posted??? PLEASE tell me if there is some location where courses are listed. Thank you, Rena Spolter ************************************** ** Join ETNI on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/groups/31737970668/ ** ETNI Blog and Poll http://ask-etni.blogspot.co.il/ ** Etni homepage - http://www.etni.org ** post to ETNI List - etni@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ** help - ask@xxxxxxxx ***************************************
