Rob,

I feel for you and wish a giant rain storm would drop on your area.

I drove thru southern Iowa, and while it's not as bad as TX, it's all
burned up too. I can't imagine how awful your area must be.

Sorry man.. hope it somehow lets some of your stuff survive.

Jim

Subject: [elky] Summer.....

Well we hit 110 yet again today and the low last night was
86. It's 6pm here and it's still 107*... But on the good side we are going
to get a cold front next week. It's going to drop to the low 100s next week.
I watch the nearest couple weather stations to us and they all show that we
have been at 100*+ for about 70 days in a row now and we are looking forward
to another 30 or so unless a hurricane comes or a glacier

The trees are all loosing their leaves pretty fast now as
they are all going dormant(hopefully). Will have to get the mower out in a
day or two to chop them all up before the piles get too deep. The temp of
the dirt in the sun is about 140*. When I checked under the back porch which
is shaded all day it was 113*. Basically everything is heatsoaked to around
108* on average.

Went by HD and lowes to pick up some materials for a job and
couldn't because both have closed their garden areas for the rest of the
week. They will open from 8-10 tomorrow though... Even in the stores it's
hot and you sweat just walking around in them. Their AC systems are
marginally sized when the temps are lower but now way undersized and a side
effect is that they never shut off so they suck all the moisture out of the
air making it very dry inside. Dry enough that your eyes hurt from it. We
aren't used to dry air anywhere here...

As for the trees... I have been soaking them at the trunk
and hoping some of that makes it deep enough to help them. Need to look at
getting a couple deep watering poles for them but the sand is as hard as
concrete now and It will be fun getting it in. Wonder if there is an IV for
trees like a reverse maple syrup system... :)

Well anyway as usual summer sucks but it's really bad this
year. I'm at my breaking point and trying to find somewhere cooler with
cheap hotel rooms for a few days. Everyone is getting cabin fever from being
stuck inside for over 2 months and I'm tired of it cause I work out in it
most of the time.
