I hope I don't have to change my screen name again.
Keep up the good work Ray.

Subject: [elky] Admin: list archives

There's been some concern about the archive for this list's posts. They're
located here:
//www.freelists.org/archive/elky

After some research, I found that the archiving cannot bedisabled. It's there
and we're stuck with it.

So. Although the likelihood of anyone obtaining sensitive materialby searching
the archives is pretty slim, you may want to keep in mindthe fact that
everything that's posted here ends up in a publicplace. I would suggest that
phone numbers, home addresses and otherstuff that might be associated with
identity theft and/or other misuse belimited to off-list communications unless
you really don't care aboutit...like if you're using a "throwaway" email
address as wellas other personal info.

I don't perceive this as a big deal, since the previous list incarnationshave
all had archive listings, but being a little careful can't hurtanything.

I need sleep. I'm gonna crash out for a while.

If ya come up with ideas about this, I'd love to hear 'em.

Ray

Can the archive be disabled or protected?

The archiving of a list can’t be disabled. Please read about our missionand
purpose and try to understand that your archives are important to thecommunity.
They aren’t a privacy risk – we obfuscate all email addressesto circumvent the
SPAMmer-crawling-the-site problem.

If you feel that the information your subscribers post on the listshouldn’t be
publicly available in the archives, please consider thefollowing:
Email isn’t by itself a secure medium. Should you be using email atall for
these things?
Anonymity can certainly be important, but this has nothing to do witharchived
emails.
If you wish to keep information private, perhaps FreeLists isn’t thebest fit
for your group?
