There's been some concern about the archive for this list's posts. They're located here:

//www.freelists.org/archive/elky

After some research, I found that the archiving cannot be disabled. It's there and we're stuck with it.

So. Although the likelihood of anyone obtaining sensitive material by searching the archives is pretty slim, you may want to keep in mind the fact that everything that's posted here ends up in a public place. I would suggest that phone numbers, home addresses and other stuff that might be associated with identity theft and/or other misuse be limited to off-list communications unless you really don't care about it...like if you're using a "throwaway" email address as well as other personal info.

I don't perceive this as a big deal, since the previous list incarnations have all had archive listings, but being a little careful can't hurt anything.

I need sleep. I'm gonna crash out for a while.

If ya come up with ideas about this, I'd love to hear 'em.

Ray

Can the archive be disabled or protected?

The archiving of a list can?t be disabled. Please read about our mission and purpose and try to understand that your archives are important to the community. They aren?t a privacy risk ? we obfuscate all email addresses to circumvent the SPAMmer-crawling-the-site problem.

If you feel that the information your subscribers post on the list shouldn?t be publicly available in the archives, please consider the following: * Email isn?t by itself a secure medium. Should you be using email at all for these things? * Anonymity can certainly be important, but this has nothing to do with archived emails. * If you wish to keep information private, perhaps FreeLists isn?t the best fit for your group?
