I sometimes think that my eagerness to read more spoils my enjoyment of my
current reading because I tend to rush through it. This isn't as bad now
that I've dropped some reading group commitments, but it's all those pesky
recommendations that make me falter - only joking! Keep them coming.

Ten books? Well that is only the must read soon list. There is the must
get around to reading some time list which may have loads of books on it,
most of which I will never read.

David, I agree with you about the excitement of starting a new book, and I
feel that too. But just for those first few minutes, I definitely experience
anxiety too - perhaps just loaded with expectation as my friend suggests.
And your comment about meeting old friends in a series of books is one of
the reasons why I enjoy coming a cross a new "seam" of fiction by an author.
I like to see how the author develops as well as the writers. But what I
really want to know is how you limit your to be read list to about 10 books!

Hi all

I always find starting a new book rather an adventure. Firstly the act of
choosing a new book to read is exciting. Sometimes you already know what it
will be, but there are times when it is difficult to decide.

If you are starting a book in a series you already know, it is like meeting
up with old friends, but of course sometimes the book is a disappointment,
but the good ones moe than make up for the bad ones.

I always keep a list of books I know I want to read, and currently there are
ten books on it. Sometimes there are none at all, but that is comparatively
rare for me.

No, new books are an exciting time for me, and I am rarely disappointed.

David

I'm exactly the same June. I hate starting a new book and sometimes have to
push myself to get started. I hate that very beginning part when I don't
know any of the characters or places and can't wait till I get to the point
when I pick it up knowing who's who. I think that's why I can't get along
with short stories, because I just reach that point when it's all over and I
have to start again. I think that's why I like to read series of books,
because it's not as daunting at the beginning. I'm particularly nervous
when it's a new author.

Shell.
