Hi Sarah,

It's often difficult to give a definitive reply to this kind of
question, since much depends on what format your document is in, and
the overall way it is showing.

First, if you are using Word, you can search for and replace hard
returns. However, there is a big BUT here.

First, save your document after each stage here with a slightly
different name. If anything goes wrong, you can always go back.

If paragraphs have been separated by at least TWO hard returns, what I
tend to do it search for ^p^p (That's circumflex p circumflex p) and
replace with something like five dollar signs. It doesn't need to be
a Dollar, just so long as the document does not have a sequence of
whatever you chose in it.

Do that and save.

Now search for just one ^p which I usually replace with a space, just
in case the hard return is up against the last character of the line.

Save.

Now search for your five Dollar characters or whatever you have used,
and replace with just one ^p.

Check the overall structure at this stage, especially where there are
headings.

That should take care of most things in Word.

If you are editing in Duxbury, there is a "Join Lines" command. If
you turn on Codes (Alt + F3), new lines are shown as [l] - (That's
left square bracket letter l right square bracket)

You can highlight a sequence of lines which have this code at the end,
and then select "Join Lines" from DBT's Layout menu.

Hopefully this will give you a couple of ideas to try out.

George.

Hi George,

Is there any way to remove them? This isn't the only word document
I've workd with that has them, and I'd like to be able to shorten my
pages by using all available character space.

Thanks,

Hi Sarah,

It sounds like you may have hard carriage return at the end of each
line in your Word document.

George.

Hello list:

I am working on a document that I had to re-format in word, and have
imported into duxbery 11.4. I'm using eight and a half by 11 paper,
and I am having spacing issues. Duxberry seems to want to utilize only
half the line, and every time I try to move a word up to the previous
line, one I know will fit, it won't let me.

I am unsure how to fix this, and I'm not sure even going back into
word to fiddle with the spacing would work at this point.

I'd appreciate a solucion ASAP as this needs put out today.

Thank you,
