Thanks, everyone, for your help with page numbering. It turns out that I forgot
that in my template, I had created the prelim document style to number the
first page. That meant that no matter what I set in my Word doc, the mapped DBT
style was changing it. Ah, the power of styles and templates when you forget
what you create!
