Hi Jean, Did Alva actually produce a USB version before they went belly up? Or is it in fact a USB to Serial device between the PC and Alva? George. I am assuming the same at work because they are diligent about Windows updates, etc. But I can't vouch for that without asking on Monday. The Alva display is connected through USB. Do you know if any Windows tweaks, performance boosters, or add-ons might cause a problem? There are items in the installed programs list that I am not familiar with, and some of them look like Power Toys to me. I know some of those have been documented as causing Jaws problems for users in certain situations, but I don't know specifics. And at this point I wouldn't want to suggest removing "tweaks" without due reason. I can't be 100% certain, but there have been some reports of XP SP3 causing a few problems. In fact, I'm currently trying to troubleshoot a problem with serial communications, and assume this is how you might have Alva connected. Sorry to be asking so many questions, but de-bugging such issues can be a long haul. George. These are the key combos I've tried: Jaws stops talking, whatever is on the braille display stays up, alt-tab doesn't work, alt-F4 doesn't work, alt-control-delete doesn't work. I can't seem to do anything, and then have to push the power button to reboot the PC. My first port of call would be the Application section of the Event Viewer, but that's perhaps a rather technical area, unless you have a local system administrator who could help. I've some ideas after that, but again a system administrator's help would be required. George. Everytime I open or create a file and translate to a DXB file, and then use alt-9 to have Jaws read the cursor position, the computer freezes. There is also an Alva braille display hooked up. At home I have various versions of Jaws standard and XP Home. I've tried to duplicate the same scenario with Jaws 7, 8 and 9 using DBT 10.7 but everything works fine here. This at least tells me that it should work at work. Can anyone suggest how to troubleshoot this problem? Thanks. Jean
