Hi Ann,
I try to avoid translating PDF (which in my book means "pretty damned
frustrating") whenever possible. However, when I have to, I open them in
Kurzweil 1000, which treats them as documents to be scanned. I save them
as Word documents, and import them to DBT using the Word importer. I don't
save them as RTF files because the importer doesn't handle them
properly. I used to open them in Adobe and save them as text files, but
even though the text was more error-free than it is with K1000, the
formatting got so badly messed up that I gladly settled for the inaccurate
text. I keep hoping that some day, Adobe will fix their accessibility
module so it works correctly, but we're not there yet. Better still, I
wish they'd just abandon the whole idea of PDF, but I don't think that will
happen either.

Does anyone routinely translate pdf's into braille? If so, how do you do it?
