Hi Rhonda, With Office 2007, you currently have to "Save As" File Type "Word 97-2003 (*.doc)". This can be set up as the default for all documents in Word 2007. Meantime, if you receive Word 2007 .docx files (which are in effect XML files) you can install the Office 2007 Compatibility Pack, available free from:- http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/word/HA100444731033.aspx This will allow you to open and edit such files in Word 2003 and Word XP. As regards upgrading to Windows 7 (Not 2007), this is largely a question of whether or not your current PC will support it. Although I am a big fan of Windows 7, I would only advise it under carefully considered needs. Basically, if it ain't broke, don't try to fix it! George. -----Original Message----- From: duxuser-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:duxuser-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Rhonda Gregoire Sent: 04 December 2009 13:40 To: duxuser@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [duxuser] Re: Windows Vista and Embossers I have Windows XP Pro 5.1 with Office 2003 and A Juliet Pro 60 can I upgrade to Windows 2007 with Word 2007? Ideal setup: Ultimate Edition 2.3 x.86 [Ubuntu crafted by "Thee Mahn" in the States] (avoid x.64 as it will need 64 bit drivers - you can install 32 bit operating systems on 64 bit processors - you just don't get all of the 'benefits'!) Canon Scan LiDE 60 - the most up-to-date Canon Scanner available under GNU/Linux if memory serves me right. Any printer - Ultimate Edition just works 'out of the box' with most printer drivers - even giving the correct model number! Duxbury - remember George how quickly the demo installed on Fedora 11 at Sight Village! For those who cannot live without Microsoft office - www.codeweavers.com - for Cross-Over Office Professional - you can then run Office (up to 2003) on Linux - it looks just like it would under it's 'native' OS! It is safest done with qualified help to hand. Moreover, the "Add Printer Wizard" does NOT work properly with Windows 7 - official! As for their "Download Manager" - again at your own risk. To add to this, see today's thread mentioning 64 bit drivers - or rather the lack of. Sorry - but we've been dealing with Index embossers for over 20 years now, and have learned to bench test in all manner of ways before we release to clients. Don't get me wrong - they are good embossers, but need treated carefully. You can get this wizard from the Index site by downloading the Download Manager - use this link, http://www.indexbraille.com/Downloads/Software/Drivers-and-Utilities.a spx It may be worth upgrading the Basic's firmware. The current version is 12.03.4 and has much better plug and play support. The utility for upgrading the firmware is also provided by the Download Manager. The mother board on my previous one fried, and unfortunately, I lost all programs I had saved on it. Anyway, I have DBT installed, but I cannot get the drivers for my Index Basic-D installed. The manufacturer does not seem to have updated their drivers, so the download manager offered on their site does not work. Would anyone happen to have these drivers off list they could send me? If not, is there another way around this? By the way, the embosser has 10.31 firmware on it in case that makes a difference.
