OOPS! I meant to say that if you bought 10.4, you can download for free. Was: Is'nt braille a language? Hi Dale, If you bought DBT WIN over 3 or more years ago, the upgrade will cost you $295 USD or close to $385 Canadian at today's exchange rate. If you bought 10.4, then the cost will be $195 USD or around $255 Canadian. Hope this clarifies things a little. Was: Is'nt braille a language? Well, nearly $600 USD is getting on for $900.00 CDN. But I don't quite understand the pricing shown. It looks like a SMA only applies if the product owned is under a year old. I am sure I am wrong about that. I remember though that the version I bought in January 2000, 10.3 I think was soon superseded and it seems to me that I didn't upgrade then for a similar reason, the full cost for a few tweaks and the Swift add-in. Quite reasonable I am sure for a Braille production house but a little steep for us on-the-fly disposable document users. It is in the range of $400 a year. I remember when a pretty good typewriter could be had for that. Of course, I just bought a new Perkins Brailler for $1,400. Mine needed service bad but I couldn't afford to send it away until I had a replacement. In the end the repair cost for one was $12.00 and the other $40, we have three here now, two in constant use and now a third for standby I suppose. My original machine was $125.00 back in 1969 and it came with a hard case. now that is a couple of hundred extra. This is less a complaint than a statement of fact. I could have spent as much money keeping up with DBT in the past four years as we have used on Perkins braillers beginning with the first one my wife bought in about 1965. Back then the RNIB had some sort of subsidy, I believe she paid 15 quid. ----- Original Message ----- From: George Bell <mailto:george@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: duxuser@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Tuesday, August 24, 2004 4:15 AM Subject: [duxuser] Re: Upgrades. Was: Is'nt braille a language? Hi Dale, I don't know where the $900 came from (Which currency?), but you will find current American Dollar prices at the following:- http://www.duxburysystems.com/Prices_04_20040621.h tm George Bell. -----Original Message----- From: duxuser-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:duxuser-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Dale Leavens Sent: 24 August 2004 05:49 To: duxuser@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [duxuser] Re: Upgrades. Was: Is'nt braille a language? I don't know how one can afford to keep up. Having just upgraded computers, jaws, K1000, and another Braille Printer, the Index Basic-D which I will be requiring assistance with soon, can't get it working right. They told me it would cost nearly nine hundred dollars to move from 10.3 to 10.4 in April and now you say 10.5! I would really like that Swift utility function though! Do you know if 10.5 is handling tables in WordPerfect any better? A space between columns and a new line between rows? I think my computers though are all possessed with gremlins. Was: Is'nt braille a language? Hi Caroline, If it was March this year, then I don't think you have a problem. Just be ready for an internet download. Was: Is'nt braille a language? George, I haven't exactly placed my order for the 10.5 upgrade, but I'm entitled for a free upgrade if I understand correctly since I purchased my Duxbury originally in I believe March. Is this correct? Thanks. Looking forward to the new version!!!
