Karina,

What you've described is normal behavior for DBTW because there are no representations for these characters in translated braille. If you want a character such as the at sign to remain untranslated, you could use the [q] code to force DBTW to write out the symbol. For example, to write the at sign, you would code [q~@]. This also means that you could write anything you want in place of the at sign by using it as the parameter of the [q] code.
