Regarding Hebrew, Greek, Cyrillic, and other non-Roman scripts:
DBT has many braille translators for non-Roman scripts. DBT 10.7 has two
Hebrew translators, one based on the needs of Israel, and one based on the
needs of Americans (and others) who wish to produce Hebrew Braille. We

Why the different versions? In general, in Israelis do not need to see
vowels, and Americans what to get more vowels in the braille. But when they
do show vowels, there are differences. Plus there are different rules for
mixing other languages (such as English or Arabic) with the Hebrew.
How do you write the Hebrew? Our advise is to use Microsoft Word. Duxbury
DBT will import the files correctly, and will produce quality braille once
you ask for a translation from DBT.
In terms of synagogue services, be aware that some paryer books are already
produced in braille (contact JBI and other resources).
Some times people put together services by Xerox and cut and paste. This
can be frustrating.
All the time that is saved by cutting and pasting needs to be wasted by
having the material scanned or re-keyed.
If you are dealing with printed material, be aware that some scanning
software can read Hebrew and turn it inot Microsoft Word files.
I have had experience doing this with AABBY (a Russian company) scanning
software. I know that several companies sell software that can scan and
read Hebrew text.
