This has been a long standing issue with Notepad, and unfortunately
can be tricky to resolve. Because each document can be formatted
differently, it's almost impossible to write a routine to guarantee
correct removal of the spurious returns.

Do you by any chance have Word for Windows available to you?

If you do, you can do a search for ^p (that is circumflex letter p as
in papa) and replace with a space.

However, you do have to be careful where paragraph breaks should be.

In an ideal world, paragraphs should be separated by TWO carriage
returns, and so first, you search for ^p^p, and replace with say five
asterisks.

Then search for one paragraph mark (^p) and replace with a space.

Finally, search for the five asterisks, and replace with ^p to restore
your paragraphs.

George.

Subject: [duxuser] A how to question

Using version 10.4. Often, I convert text files into
braille. These files typically are composed using Notepad
and subsequently imported into DBW for brailling.

Is there some way to preclude DBTW from beginning a new
braille line when it encounters a single carriage
return/linefeed in the print file? If not, using search and
replace, how can I substitute a new paragraph indicator to
replace each occurrence of two carriage returns?

  Thanks.

Don Roberts
