Hi Andre,

If it is a manual page break, then ^m (Circumflex m as in mike) is what you
look for. Then replace with ^p (Circumflex p)

George.

George

On this same note but not perhaps completely duxbury related.

I use a programme called pdf converter professional from Scansoft to
convert pdf files directly into word. What I do find however is that the
word document has many hard page breaks in it which I would like to replace
with paragraph symbols. Is there a way to do this in Word?

Andre

This has been a long standing issue with Notepad, and unfortunately can be
tricky to resolve. Because each document can be formatted differently, it's
almost impossible to write a routine to guarantee correct removal of the
spurious returns.

Do you by any chance have Word for Windows available to you?

If you do, you can do a search for ^p (that is circumflex letter p as in
papa) and replace with a space.

However, you do have to be careful where paragraph breaks should be.

In an ideal world, paragraphs should be separated by TWO carriage returns,
and so first, you search for ^p^p, and replace with say five asterisks.

Then search for one paragraph mark (^p) and replace with a space.

Finally, search for the five asterisks, and replace with ^p to restore your
paragraphs.

George.

Using version 10.4. Often, I convert text files into braille. These files
typically are composed using Notepad and subsequently imported into DBW for
brailling.

Is there some way to preclude DBTW from beginning a new braille line when it
encounters a single carriage return/linefeed in the print file? If not,
using search and replace, how can I substitute a new paragraph indicator to
replace each occurrence of two carriage returns?

  Thanks.

Don Roberts
