I know that Jan Tobey drives miniature horse multiples; I believe she is
referring to the American Miniature Horse Registry Rulebook(the AMHR operates
under the auspices of the American Shetland Pony Club). My copy of their
combined Rulebook is several years old, but in the AMHR section, under "Fine
Harness", it mentions that classes may be offered for pairs, tandems, unicorns,
four or six-in-hand or more, and states "no full hames or britching" in the
course of the class description. The reader is referred to the ASPC section for
"criteria", where there are pages of specifications for various types/kinds of
show ring driving classes. I would guess that the rules are written this way
because they are ONLY for going roundy-round in the flat show ring; however, I
really wouldn't want to drive MY pair, even thought they're minis, too-without
breeching. Seems odd to me to FORBID it; why not just make it optional?
Certainly,I have seen very elegant multiples harness, both with and without
breeching....
The 2005 Rulebook of the other major Miniature horse registry, the American
Miniature Horse Association, has no mention of forbidding breeching(which makes
more sense, to me.)
