Helen Roeder asked me to keep the Pairs List updated on our progress. I am
also copying the OHHA list.

We spent last Saturday at the site of the new Cowboy Country CDE. This was
only one of many days with many more to come. Only hope there are enough
days left to get it done. I have a whole new appreciation of what goes into
building a course. It is one thing to build a course on clear prairie and
perhaps incorporate a few natural trees. We are carving a lot of this
course out of the wilderness--like pioneers. One hazard is basically
finished. Countless tress (AND ROOTS) were removed to clear this tree
hazard. Then boxes and triangles were constructed in the midst of the
remaining tall trees which had to be stripped up 10 feet. The boards are
all sunk into the posts so there are no sharp edges to catch a horse or
equipment. It will be a fun, challenging hazard.

We worked on and around the next hazard last weekend. Most of our time was
spent trimming, hauling, and burning cedar limbs. The trees themselves will
be used in the hazard to build cordwood stacks and perimeter fencing. This
hazard also required a lot of tree removal, stump removal, etc. It is a
blessing that we can burn close to the construction site. If we had to haul
the debris, I don't think we could get it done. So far we haven't had to
purchase any posts. They have been donated by an electric company. We have
to remove copper wire, etc from the poles and cut them to length.

I also ventured out on some of the trails. Being very allergic to poison
ivy, I try to avoid it at all costs. But I rode in a truck and got to see
where the trail will go. It is a lovely drive through wooded area. A
culvert was installed to allow us access to parts of the property we
couldn't get to before. You will enjoy this drive.

We will be working at the site this coming Saturday, June 28.
