Nancy,
The main issue is control...you are required to have a groom with you at all
times when driving a pair.
I remember a show I went to with a carriage that was under development. The
TD, a friend, called me over to ask what I was doing driving a pair without a
groom...My groom was on the back seat, which was very low, and could not be
seen...since changed to a short wagonette, solving all those problems and
making it a very useful carriage.
