I have been working on an xmplrpc plugin on and off for some years.
About 2 years ago, I installed an ssl certicifcate using Lets Encrypt.
Now the transaction between client and remote fails at the SSL 443 port
of the remote side. The debugging output doesn't give any feed-back on
this. Using https for web pages works as expected.
The plugin is called xcom.
