Another thing, as on SplitBrain:

try lighttp (i think thats its name), a more simple and much faster

lighttpd aka "Lighty" http://www.lighttpd.net/

You might also try nanoweb http://nanoweb.si.kz/ it's an HTTP server
written in PHP itself.

It seems to me there were some potential issues with running dokuwiki
under those platforms, some advanced feature that might not work
right, but it escapes me at the moment.

Rewriting is somewhat more tricky in lighty but works fine. wiki.splitbrain.org runs on lighty.

Could a generic set of lighttpd rewriting rules be added to the dokuwiki distribution? This would probably help people who are new to lighttpd.
